Health and safety — read this part

This site is not medical advice. Meditorama publishes guided breathing sessions and educational content. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a treatment, or a substitute for care from a qualified health professional. If you have a health condition or any doubt about whether this practice suits you, speak with your doctor before you start.

Breath retention carries real risk if practised carelessly. You must:

  • practise only while sitting or lying down, never standing;
  • never practise in or near water — a bath, a pool, the sea, the shower. Breath holding after intense breathing can cause a blackout with no warning, and people have drowned this way;
  • never practise while driving or operating machinery;
  • stop immediately if you feel pain, chest pressure, or genuine distress.

Do not practise without medical clearance if you are pregnant, or if you have epilepsy, a heart condition, high blood pressure, a history of fainting, a respiratory condition, or any serious medical condition.

Tingling, light-headedness and warmth are normal effects of this breathing. Pain and panic are not.

You practise at your own risk. You are responsible for deciding whether a session is appropriate for you and for stopping when your body tells you to. The numbers shown in a guided session are a reference, not an instruction, and should never be treated as a target to reach.
